There is some confusion over whether or not you need a Yellow Fever vaccine in order to enter Mozambique. I looked on the Center for Disease Control website and only found that if you are coming from an infected country then you need to have the shot. However, when Ashley Preston was getting her shots, they told her that as of April 2008 every traveler entering Mozambique needs to have a Yellow Fever shot. I contacted the CDC and they said they were not aware of any change but still recommended getting the vaccine. I then called the Mozambique Embassy and they said all travelers needed the shot, that they had not put it on the website but they are requiring it (it’s Africa).
So, I would recommend calling a travel clinic and see about getting a Yellow Fever shot. I’m sorry this is late, but policy has just changed and we weren’t aware of the change. If you cannot get to a clinic to get the shot you can get a shot at the border for around $50 (if they require you to do so).
Yellow Fever is not at all a problem in Mozambique. The border authorities may not even check, but they are saying it is necessary.
