Hey friends!!
I am piggy backing off Stephen here, but I just wanted to introduce myself as well. My name is Jessica McClure and I will be your other leader for this adventure to Mozambique. This whole process from start to finish (aka me getting the call from Alli to praying about it to accepting the position) happened within the last 48 hours, so it still hasn’t quite sunk in that I am leaving for Africa in 23 days. I am so pumped that God put this opportunity in my path and I am very eager to meet each one of you!
A little background on me: I am 27, originally from Georgia and am currently living back in my hometown of Commerce (which is about 30 miles from Gainesville, where we will all meet in June). I graduated from the University of Georgia in ’03 and have been doing ministry and missions all over the country ever since. I recently moved back to GA after 5 years being a little nomad and living all over the place, from West Virginia to the Twin Cities in MN to southern IL. I am currently in process of coming on staff full time at AIM, specifically working with the World Race program. For the past month or so, I have been working at the AIM office here in Gainesville a couple of times a week, assisting with set-up of ministries and traveling logistics with the racers that are currently out on the field. I have never had any prior experience with AIM or participated in any of their short term trips, so when this opportunity arose, my supervisors thought it would be a great way to gain some personal field experience with AIM and establish a solid foundation as I come on full time staff. And I thought, hey, a summer in a cube booking flights or a summer in Africa living, serving and discipling? No contest there!
I got really excited when I heard the trip was to Mozambique. I spent three weeks there with an organization called Iris Ministries (www.irismin.org) a year and a half ago and fell in love with how I saw God moving there. I have been aching to go back ever since, and even considered going to a missons school Iris has there in Pemba last summer. Right now I am just in complete awe at God’s goodness and faithfulness as He has just orchestrated this crazy plan so perfectly.
Well. I don’t want to write a novel here, and there will be plenty of time to get to know one another. I am praying for each of you and I am more than confident that God has some amazing ways He wants to teach, minister to, and wreck all of us this summer. I am honored to be able to walk alongside you all during this process.
If I can help you with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me at [email protected]. Also you can check out my AIM blog for more info about me and what I am doing here at AIM: www.jessicamcclure.myadventures.org
Until next time, friends! Grace, peace, and blessings to each one of you!
Jess
**the pic was taken on my first trip to Mozambique back in Nov ’06. I am glad they posted pics of you guys up here with your bios. I like having a visual image of people I am communicating with and praying for. So, I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon. See you guys soon!
